Why HSBC for Infrastructure & Energy?

Specialists

In-depth sector knowledge

Our industry specialists cover a wide range of infrastructure sub-sectors. We support customers in enabling society to function and prosper, increasing connectivity and urbanisation, driving economic growth and often delivering a key public service.

Products & Solutions

Support for your ambitions

We support many infrastructure and energy businesses and projects by providing debt and supporting services and working closely with colleagues across the bank to provide investment banking products.

Focus on ESG

Supporting major infrastructure initiatives

While we finance a number of industries that significantly contribute to greenhouse gas emissions, we are working with our customers to reduce their emissions and our own. This includes supporting the Government infrastructure and energy policy initiatives aimed at achieving net zero, levelling-up and establishing the UK as an attractive place for inward investment.

Infrastructure Highlights

HSBC Energy Policy

We released our energy policy to support net zero transition in December 2022. Collaborating across Global Risk, Sustainability and Product teams, this promotes our strategic growth in the book of new economy deals across renewables, clean energy and green infrastructure. We highlight our support for critical areas including recovering Energy from Waste (EfW) and biomass energy, subject to internal DD and pre-approvals.

Financed emissions targets

We’ve announced targets for reducing financed emissions in two carbon-intensive sectors – oil and gas, and power and utilities – by 2030. Our ambition to become a net zero bank by 2050 means aligning financed emissions – the greenhouse gas emissions of our clients – to net zero.

Decarbonising the UK Energy System – It’s Electrifying

In the UK, we are seeing a fundamental shift in energy demand towards a renewable or low carbon source. In this article, our Global Head of Clean Power Systems, Randolph Brazier, discusses the reasons for this and what needs to be done across associated technologies, supply chains and projects in order to deliver it.
